A devoted Marvel fan has brought the character of Zombie Doctor Strange to life through an impressive cosplay. As the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) entered the Multiverse Saga after the Infinity Saga, new avenues for storytelling emerged, including the introduction of variants and alternate timelines.
Inspired by this concept, a Reddit user named Stylouz took on the challenge of recreating the appearance of Zombie Doctor Strange, as depicted in Sam Raimi’s upcoming film, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Interestingly, Marvel Studios has already presented two versions of Zombie Doctor Strange. The first appeared in the animated series Marvel’s What If…? on Disney+, while the second was featured in the live-action film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, making it the only real-life iteration of the character to date.
Despite the defeat of Zombie Doctor Strange in the film, Marvel Studios is not abandoning this intriguing storytelling concept. Instead, they will continue exploring the undead theme through animation, specifically in the upcoming Disney+ series Marvel Zombies, set for release in 2024. This series will serve as a continuation of the cliffhanger ending from the What If…? zombie storyline.
It remains uncertain how extensively Marvel Studios plans to develop this particular aspect of the MCU. However, it would be worth considering a live-action zombie show in addition to the animated series. Previous rumors suggested that such a project was in development at Marvel Studios, but it is unclear whether it evolved into the aforementioned Marvel Zombies series.
Marvel Studios can find great inspiration for this endeavor in Robert Kirkman’s limited series, Marvel Zombies, which spans five issues. The comics depict an alternate universe plagued by a zombie contagion.
As Marvel Studios expands the MCU and explores new storytelling possibilities, diversifying the narrative becomes increasingly important. The concept of the multiverse allows for unique opportunities that do not necessarily impact the established timeline. A Marvel Zombies project with Zombie Doctor Strange taking center stage would undoubtedly be one of the franchise’s more unconventional and exciting ventures.
